Fall is the time of year deep sea fishing charters off Jupiter are starting to get hot. The Bonita and sharks have moved on. We had a great summer bite for Sailfish trolling north of the Jupiter Inlet in 160-250’. Mixed in with the Sails has been a pretty good Kingfish bite.
The Mahi bite is starting to pick; we’re catching small schoolies on top of the ledge. If you want to catch a nice gaffer Mahi on a fishing charter, you have to truly go deep sea fishing! We’re having to run anywhere from 15-25 miles offshore before we find a decent weed line to troll.
The weather this time of year is great. Nice sunny days, calm seas and it’s not quite as hot as July, August and September. With the changing weather pattern, the weed lines should start to push closer to shore bringing with it an improved Mahi bite which peaks in Mid-October thru December.
As the cool fronts start to pass thru in December, the Sailfish gets red hot. So, book now for your day on a deep sea fishing charter for Mahi, Sailfish and the experience of a life time.
Kinds of fishing to expect off Palm Beach
Run-n-Gun is what we call it when we "run" looking for the best "fishy" conditions. They may be offshore, north of the Jupiter Inlet or south down by Juno. Most charter captains don't like to run-n-gun because it uses more fuel. I prefer it because it improves the chances of catching fish by going to the fish instead of hoping they come to you.
Trolling is the tried and true method for deep sea fishing off Jupiter and Palm Beach for game fish offshore. I use a spread of level wind Penn Squall rods and reels which takes the anglers mind off having to work the reel and lets them concentrate on catching the fish. We normally pull a spread of various lures, each specifically chosen to target a species of fish ranging from Dolphin, Blackfin Tuna, Bonita, Wahoo and Kingfish.
Drifting live bait is an effective way to target Sailfish here in Jupiter. We use live bait on circle hooks drifting behind the boat or hung below a kite 100' up. Although we're usually looking for Sailfish, we can catch any type of game fish while drifting.
